Pietro’s Fight To The Finish Line – The Third Annual 5K Run/Walk
Pietrosfight.org held its third annual 5K on Saturday, September 19, 2015. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for this beautiful day for this amazing boy. We spent the day along Brooklyn’s scenic 69th Street Pier. Runners, walkers, and strollers all showed their support as they proudly wore END DMD shirts, representing our main goal here at Pietrosfight.org. Pietro is truly an inspiration to all who cross in his path. In years past, his mother would carry him on her shoulders for the kids race and he would stand at the finish line “high fiving” everyone who crossed it. On Saturday, Pietro ran his first kids race! He didn’t stop there; he continued to start the main 5K race at the front of the line and ran down the course alongside his buddies, his friends, his family and all of his fighters. This boy pushed all the runners to run faster and the walkers to finish the course. Matt Acquista, the first male runner to finish the race, and Maria Manning, the first female runner to finish the race, both said that seeing Pietro running and walking on the 5K course pushed them to run faster and harder. We want to thank Congressman Dan Donovan and Senator Marty Golden for coming out bright and early on that beautiful Saturday morning and supporting Pietrosfight.org. Thank you to all of Pietro’s fighters for being there and showing your support. You are the backbone of Pietrosfight.org and the reason we push every day. For that, we are forever grateful.
Pietro began a 96 week clinical trial over the summer that is based in California. We travel there for an infusion once a week and Pietro does the whole journey with a smile on his face and love in his heart. We are lucky and blessed to say that he is responding well to the drug and not experiencing any side effects. We will continue to keep you posted on Instagram and Facebook as he endures the remainder of the trial.
We need to END DMD in time to save the lives of all boys wit Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Three years ago, we started our foundation to raise money and create awareness for a rare genetic disease called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. With that said, we would not be where we are today without the assistance of our sponsors, vendors, our community, volunteers, and all of Pietro’s Fighters. Thank you to The Main Race Sponsor, Dana Ford – Ford Motors, The Bib Sponsor – Investors Bank, The Bag Sponsor – Bubbles and Suds Laundry, and The Water Bottle Sponsor – Bay Ridge Windows and Doors, And to all our Mile Marker Sponsors, The Alacan Family, Robert Nelson, Augie Delorentis , Eli Bensoussan Vintage Catering, BOSS, Specialized Eye Care, S&E Building Material, Liberty Payroll, Senator Marty Golden, Dr. Michael Vitale, Frank and Sal’s Italian Market, Bay Ridge Honda, Bay Ridge Volkswagen, Bay Ridge Volvo, Volkswagen of Bayridge, Marina, Lindsay, Natalie, Renee, Aimee, Kaleidoscope Toy Store, Team Ag, Breen Electric, Stepping Stones, Harbor Fitness, and JM Contracting.
